It’s the middle of summer—and if your kids are starting to say “I’m bored” between camp days and family trips, we’ve got you covered. Whether you're looking to fill a free afternoon or plan a fun weekend close to home, New Jersey has so many great kid-friendly spots (some you may not have even heard of yet!).
We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite family-friendly adventures across NJ—all perfect for those warm July days when you just want to make some memories and keep the kids happy. And yes, they pair perfectly with a visit to Après for sun hats, easy outfits, and birthday gifts on your way.
1. Turtle Back Zoo (West Orange, NJ)
A local favorite for good reason. This zoo is just the right size for kids of all ages, and you can ride the train, visit the butterfly tent, or cool off in the splash pad on hot days. Don’t forget comfy sneakers and a sunhat!
2. Alstede Farms (Chester, NJ)
Pick-your-own season is in full swing! Depending on the week, you’ll find blueberries, peaches, or sweet corn—and kids love the tractor ride, farm animals, and homemade ice cream. It’s the kind of old-fashioned fun we love.
3. Liberty Science Center (Jersey City, NJ)
When you need a break from the heat, this indoor spot is packed with hands-on exhibits, a planetarium, and interactive fun that kids and grown-ups both enjoy. Great for rainy days or a break from the sun.
4. The Shore, Of Course
You can’t go wrong with a classic beach day. We love Spring Lake for its clean, family-friendly vibe—or Point Pleasant for the boardwalk, mini rides, and saltwater taffy. Don’t forget your favorite Après beach towel and cover-up!
5. Reeves-Reed Arboretum (Summit, NJ)
A hidden gem! Nature trails, fairy houses, and lots of open space to run and explore—plus great family programming and seasonal events. It’s perfect for a peaceful morning walk with littles.
6. Bernardsville Train Station Adventure
Okay, this one's a hyper-local tip. If your toddler loves trains, take a short ride from the Bernardsville station and make it a mini field trip. Grab a snack in a nearby town and ride back—simple, sweet, and so exciting for little ones.
7. Backyard Summer Fun (with a Little Help from Us)
Sometimes the best memories are made at home. Build a lemonade stand, have a backyard campout, or throw a DIY field day. We’ve got the cutest outfits, sunglasses, and giftable kits to help make the day extra special.
